Axe Throwing, and in particular our Leagues are an individual sport. You don’t need to get yourself a team to compete. You’ll be competing for the title against all other players individually

The minimum age for Axe Throwing at the Agawam Axe House is 18.
Yes! You will need your own hatchet and “big” axe. Both axes are required for the league and while we have some for sale, we cannot guarantee availability.

Our standard leagues are unaffiliated, fun, and inviting leagues that run for a total of 8, or 5 weeks. 4 matches per week and a double elimination playoff.
ALL MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE THEIR OWN AXE
Standard axes must:
- Handle Length:
- The length must be a minimum of 13” long and cannot exceed a maximum of 17” long:
- This measurement begins from the bottom (butt) of the handle to the top of the axe head.;
- If any of the handle protrudes from the top of the axe head (eye) it does not count towards the minimum or maximum handle length.
- The length must be a minimum of 13” long and cannot exceed a maximum of 17” long:
- Weight:
- The axe head must weigh between 1.25 and 1.75 pounds. Please note, referees and officials will refer to the stamped or advertised weight of an axe. If there is no stamped weight, a referee or official may weigh an axe including the handle to assess its combined weight.
- Blade Length:

- The face (blade) of the axe must be no longer than 4″ and no shorter than 3” and must be fixed to the handle of the axe with an eye-wedge or a pin (ie: no ‘floating’ axe heads where the head itself is wedged on a tapering handle and only held there through gravity.)
- The axe head must have a minimum height of 1.5” as measured parallel to the handle.
- The axe head may have a maximum length (from face to butt) of 7”

BIG axe is a tie-breaker throw (or throws).
A Big Axe (Felling Axe) has the following requirements
- The axe must be a single bit blade, ie: no blade or sharpened spike may be protruding from the back of the axe head.
- The axe must weigh between 2.75 and 3.75 pounds of total weight (handle included).
- The handle must be wood, handle length must be at least 25″ including the handle in the eye of the blade.
- The face (blade) of the axe must be no longer than 4 5/8″ and no shorter than 3.5” and must be fixed to the handle of the axe with an eye or pin (ie: no ‘floating’ axe heads where the head itself is wedged on a tapering handle and only held there through gravity.)
- The axe head must have a minimum height of 2” as measured parallel to the handle.
You’re welcome to bring your own outside food; absolutely no outside drinks.
We have pre-packaged snacks, soda and water available for purchase.
The duration of the night depends on the number of players, the average is 60-90 minutes.
League members often provide guidance for new throwers, however, we do not teach you how to throw the axe. We will run through the rules, in detail, in week 1.
To learn to throw the axe – be sure to book online prior to your first week of league.
You can miss certain weeks of League, and those matches can be made up the prior or following weeks. There are no limitations to the number of weeks you can miss.
There is absolutely no guarantee matches can be made up in week 7.
Absolutely, doors open at 6:00pm on League Nights for League members to come and practice.
Yes. But everyone in our facility must sign a waiver before entering.

Each League requires a minimum of 6 competitors to run.
